For En avant, marche! the directors Frank Van Laecke and Alain Platel have taken inspiration from the tradition of musical groups which for decades have been part of the social and cultural life. The musical direction is in the hands of Steven Prengels. At every venue, the four actors and seven musicians will be joined by a local brass band or marching band on stage. In Brescia, the band will be “Isidoro Capitanio”.
The music, ranging from Beethoven to Mahler, from Verdi to the national anthem, combined with Luigi Pirandello’s L’uomo dal fiore in bocca (The Man with the Flower in his Mouth) creates an extraordinary, dynamic and moving fresco, made of music, dance and acting where everyone, in his own loneliness, tries to find a common direction. En avant, marche! won the Herald Angel Award in Edinburgh International Festival 2015 edition.
The show winds in a continuous, wonderful and heartrenting counterpoint.
