The opening of the 2025 Opera and Ballet Season will be held on Friday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m., with a repeat performance on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. and a special Preview for the youngest audience on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. The inaugural title will be Carmen, Georges Bizet’s celebrated opera that has been missing from the Teatro Grande stage for eight years. Performed on stages all over the world and whose arias are instantly recognizable by melomaniacs and novices alike – think of L’amour est un oiseau rebelle (Habanera) – Carmen is a symbolic work of the quest for the freedom to love, a plastic depiction of the gender violence that flows from overwhelming passion.
