The Filarmonica della Scala, founded by Claudio Abbado together with Milano musicians in 1982, is one of the most important international orchestras.
Riccardo Chailly is the Main Director at the Scala from January 2015 and of Filarmonica della Scala from November 2015. In 1988 Chailly became Main Director of Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, role kept for sixteen years. At the same time he has been Music Director of Bologna’s Teatro Comunale and Milan Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi. In 2017, after twelve years, his role as Kapellmeister of Lipsia Gewandhausorchester, the most ancient assortment in Europe, will run out. Chailly directs regularly the greatest orchestras in Europe: Wiener Philharmoniker, Berliner Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris. In United States he directed the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. From August 2016 Chailly will be the Music Director of Lucerna Festival Orchestra, ensuing Claudio Abbado.
