Jewish composers between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
Event organized in collaboration with Casa della Memoria
Music by Fanny Mendelsshon, Helene Liebmann, Harriet Abrams, Marion Bauer, Rosy Wertheim, Ruth Schonthal, Ilse Weber.
The concert offers an exploration of the work of Jewish composers from the early nineteenth century, to focus in particular on those who were active in the first half of the twentieth century and who were affected, in various ways, by the Shoah. Studying their compositions is a way to read up on their formation and culture, on the position they had in the family and in society, on the limitations and opportunities of their existence as women and Jews in the Europe of empires and then in the great tragic turmoil of the last century.
