The inaugural title of the 2026 Opera and Ballet Season will be Death in Venice, an opera in two acts by Benjamin Britten that will be appearing on the stage of the Teatro Grande for the first time. An artistic and creative testament to the English composer, the work is based on the short story of the same name by Thomas Mann, to which the librettist Mary Myfanwy Piper drew rather faithfully, maintaining the typical nuances of psychological drama.
